£1m Bethel Street Appeal

In January 2009 YMCA Norfolk opened up a brand new 34 bed assessment centre which has since been operating successfully with almost 500 applications and a 98% occupancy rate.

We are now in the second phase of development which will provide 40 self-contained move-on units for homeless young people on Bethel Street which is to the rear of our existing site on St Giles. This will enable us to offer a comprehensive service, guiding young people through the difficult journey from assessment and initial support to independent living and more fulfilled lives.

The Bethel Street development will offer this opportunity to progress to independent living which in practice involves supporting young people to acquire the skills needed to maintain a tenancy, and to gain and keep employment.

YMCA Norfolk’s £4.4m development to build 40 self contained flats for young homeless people in Norwich city centre was given planning approval on February 4 2009. The outstanding funding gap lies at £1m and support for this fundraising appeal will be a significant investment in ensuring that hundreds of young people do not face the misery and fear of the streets.
